Local volunteer opportunities: (13/01/2017)

Throughout 2017 we will be offering volunteering opportunities for local people to get involved in our work.  We are looking for help with the following:

Boat Skippers/crew: We need more hands on deck to help skipper and crew our research vessel. Skippers will need to have boat handling experience, preferably in Manx waters and must have certificates. 

Crew must be physically strong with good rope skills

Boat survey team: No experience needed but you MUST be a dedicated team member and wildlife enthusiast. Please note that all boat surveys are subject to the weather and can be arranged at short notice. Volunteers with flexibility would be preferred.

Land-based survey teamNo experience needed but you MUST be a wildlife enthusiast with good eyesight! Please see http://www.mwdw.net/land-based-surveyor-network/ for details of the project

Events assistants: Throughout the summer we appear at regular events on the island with our information stall and gazebo. We are looking for confident individuals who love speaking to the public, ideally, you should already have some knowledge of Manx cetaceans, but you will also learn on the job. You must have access to a car and be able to help all day assisting with setting up and taking down of the stall. Please note that events usually take place on weekends. 

Other opportunities:

We are looking for people to help fundraise for us, this could involve organising and running events, raising money through office dress down days, bingo’s, Mhelliahs, bake sales, maintaining collection tins or looking for potential funding bodies. Please get in touch to discuss further.
